Mark: I’m not sure I can help you, but I’m wondering if you might be able to help me. I’m the 4th great grandson of Charles Denis dit LaPorte, Ignace Denis’s brother. I’ve finally been able to make that connection with a reasonable degree of confidence after uncovering the “Denis” dit name a few months ago and with the help of a very distant cousin, formerly of Mooers, New York.
In any case, There are a few “LaPortes” kicking around Northern New York in the early 19th Century, who’s lineage I’ve not been able to pinpoint and I’m wondering if they are conntected to my Charles or your Ignace or even “our” (Jean) Pierre Denis Dit LaPorte married to Francoise Sansoucy.
The one in particular that might be connected is Joseph, Ignace’s son who was born in 1811. There was a Joseph who married Nancy Beagle/Biegle in Champlain or Chazy New York, and I’m wondering if he might be the same.
If you have any info about Igance’s Joseph so that I even might be able to cross him off of my list of possibilities, I’d be very grateful.
I hope this finds you well,
Michael
P.S. My distant cousin Jonathan reads French well and has been able to transcribe documents for me in the past. Perhaps, if you haven’t had that marriage record translated, I might be able to pass it along to him.
