Nicolas Sylvestre dit Champagne & Barbe Neveu
Nicolas Sylvestre
Nicolas Sylvestre (or Sevestre) was the son of Nicolas Sevestre and Tanche Colson (Estanche). He was born around 1642 in Pont-sur-Seine, Champagne (Aube), France, and had five known brothers.[1]
Nicolas arrived in New France as a soldier in the Carignan-Salières Regiment, under the company of Grandfontaine, in 1665.[2][3] After completing his military service, he remained in the colony.
On March 20, 1667, before notary Romain Becquet, Nicolas received a land concession from Jean Bourdon in the seigneury of Dombourg.[4]

The marriage was officiated by an unnamed priest, with witnesses including Jean Bourdon, Simon le Febvre Angés, and Ignace le Gardeur du Ponceau.[5][6]
The couple had 16 children, 12 of whom married, and 3 who died in infancy.[7][8] Most of the children were born and baptized in Dombourg (later Neuville), with the exception of the first child, who was baptized in Sillery.
