Biography
Marie Roussin was born on November 25, 1669, in L’Ange-Gardien, a small settlement in New France (modern-day Quebec, Canada). She was one of the Filles du Roi (King’s Daughters), a group of approximately 800 women sponsored by King Louis XIV to immigrate to New France between 1663 and 1673 to help populate the colony. These women were provided with dowries by the crown and encouraged to marry settlers.
Marie Roussin married Pierre Tremblay, a French settler, on November 15, 1685, in L’Ange-Gardien, New France. Pierre Tremblay, born around 1660 in Quebec City, was the son of Pierre Tremblay and Ozanne Jeanne Achon. He had previously been married to Marie Madeleine Simard, who died before his marriage to Marie Roussin. Together, Marie and Pierre settled in the Charlevoix region, where they raised a large family.

Later Life and Death
Marie Roussin lived a long life, surviving her husband Pierre Tremblay, who died on October 17, 1736. She remained in the Charlevoix region, supported by her children and grandchildren. The last record of Marie Roussin dates to May 1754, when she would have been 84 years old. Her exact date of death is not recorded, but it is believed she died shortly thereafter.

1. Donation by Pierre Tremblay and Marie Roussin to François Tremblay and Marie-Reine Dufour
On October 20, 1729, Pierre Tremblay, owner of the land and seigneury of Les Éboulements, and Marie Roussin, his wife, donated a piece of land measuring three arpents in front, located in Petite-Rivière-Saint-François, to their son François Tremblay and his wife Marie-Reine Dufour. The donation was made before Master Louet, a royal notary in the Prévôté of Quebec. The document was recorded on September 4, 1731. [1]
2. Donation by Pierre Tremblay and Marie Roussin to Augustin Tremblay
On July 13, 1735, Pierre Tremblay, seigneur of Les Éboulements, and Marie Roussin, his wife, donated a piece of land to their son Augustin Tremblay. The land was to be detached from the donors’ property in Petite-Rivière-Saint-François. The donation was made before Master Louet, a royal notary in the Prévôté of Quebec. The document was recorded on July 15, 1735. [2]
3. Donation by Pierre-Louis Girard and Marguerite Tardif to Jérôme Girard
On December 7, 1746, Pierre-Louis Girard and Marguerite Tardif, residents of Notre-Dame-des-Éboulements, donated two arpents of land in the seigneury of Les Éboulements to their son Jérôme Girard. The donation was made before Michel Lavoye (Lavoie), a royal notary in the seigneury of Beaupré. The document was recorded on May 30, 1747. [3]
4. Legal Dispute Involving Marie Roussin
On October 9, 1753, a legal dispute arose between Étienne Tremblay, the eldest son of the late Pierre Tremblay and Marie Roussin, and other heirs of Pierre Tremblay. The dispute concerned the division of part of the seigneury of Les Éboulements. The court ordered that the division be carried out by Master Panet, a notary, and that all parties submit relevant documents. [4]
Pierre Tremblay
Pierre Tremblay, son of Pierre Tremblay and Ozanne Jeanne Achon, was baptized on August 12, 1660, in Quebec City, New France. He first married Marie Madeleine Simard on November 3, 1683, in Sainte-Anne-de-Beaupré, Québec. After her death, he married Marie Roussin on November 15, 1685, in L’Ange-Gardien, Québec. Pierre Tremblay died on October 17, 1736, and was buried in Petite-Rivière-Saint-François, Charlevoix.
Pierre Tremblay was the seigneur of Les Éboulements, a municipality in the Capitale-Nationale region of Quebec. The area is known for its beautiful landscapes and historical significance, including being part of the Charlevoix crater, formed by a meteor impact 350 million years ago.
