The Godins
Text by Ludovic Hudon. Chronicle produced in collaboration with the Genealogical Society of Outaouais, Inc., published June 29, 1992
A lineage of Godin (Gaudin) from Quebec descends from Charles Godin and Marie Boucher. The other Godins (called Châtillon) who came at the same time at the beginning of the colony were from Saintonge and Burgundy, while Charles was a native of Aubermesnil-Beaumais in Normandy. This lineage is also completely different from the Godins established in Acadia.
Charles I Godin lived in L’Ange-Gardien after his marriage on November 6, 1656, to Marie Boucher, daughter of Marin and Perrine Mallet. He died at age 75 around 1706, having had seventeen children, sixteen of whom established their own homes. Birth, marriage, and burial records show that their offspring spread along the north shore of the St. Lawrence River and later went to Ontario and the United States. Some among the latter would return to Canada in the Hull region.[15]
