Prussia after the war- Preußen in der Nachkriegszeit

If you happen to have photos of the region around Elbing (West Prussia- East Prussia, Kreis Marienburg, Kreis Elbing) immediately at the end of the war (1944- 1948) please use our contact page to share them or help us identify imprecise locations (of which we have several).

I will place as many photos as I can here; obviously I’d like them all to be from the region immediately adjacent to Elbing, but am willing to show any from Prussia.

hello. i wondered if you had any information on the Fuhrmann family? the names that i have are alfred fuhrmann born in the year 1911 ( or close to this year). in 1923 he came to the us on the suffren out of le havre. place of birth was elbing germany. he came over with his mother anna fuhrmann believed to be 50 at time of arrival, father was edward fuhrmann age 48 upon arrival, and brothers ernst fuhrmann ( my great grandfather) age 17 upon arrival and kurt fuhrmann age 15. they also travelled with a cousin named lisbeth fuhrmann age 20. we know that kurt passed away in st. louis mo. due to a car accident and that my great grandfather passed away in the united states as well. the rest of the family i am not sure what happened to them except that sometime after 1930 they returned home to germany and it is believed that alfred joined the army. we are unsure if lisbeth returned to germany at all. thank you for any information you may be able to give me.

    Hi Gabraelle,

I recommend you look at the German Ahnenforschung links at: http://many-roads.com/index.php/link-directory/

A couple where you might find good information include:
Deutsche Kriegsgräberfürsorge — to look for any German War dead WW1 and WW2 especially
    GenWiki
    German Genealogy
    German Immigrants

Our adressbuecher might also be helpful see: http://many-roads.com/index.php/libraries/online-histories/adressbucher/

My family comes from a little town Zeyervorderkampen just west of Elbing. I can tell you that I have not seen the Fuhrmann name in any of the Evangelische Kirche records (I have them all in our local LDS Family History Center).

I hope this helps a bit.

    Viel Glueck beim suchen!

Hi Karin,I know you spoke with my daughter (Nikke) and was wondering if you have been able to positively link our families together in any way,and if so,could you please email me to let me know what if anything you have. With the information given,I find it really hard to think our two families are not actually the same.Would be great if we could confirm this,as I have been trying for 20+ years to find them, and any living decendants.

    Thanks a lot !
    Missy

Hello Marcin. I think we would need some additional information in order to facilitate a possible contact. Please send me (via email) any names, dates, pictures of your home and I’ll pass it along to see if anyone might know something helpful. …mark
