Thanks for all of the work you are pouring into this project.
I can’t get any of the DJVU Elbing address book documents to open. MacDJview opens up fine, but other than the title of the document on top, the entire document is blank. I tried many different years, but the results are the same. Any tips?
Thanks, Andreas Cako

Hello Andreas
I have no experience using Apple products (I am a Linux person). About the best I can recommend is that you go to the DJVU site and see which plugin they recommend for your browser/ OS. This link may help: http://djvu.org/links/ ; this might also provide some pointers: http://djvu.org/forum/phpbb/
Another thing you might try is going to the dlibra site in Elblag to see if you have a similar problem there (http://dlibra.bibliotekaelblaska.pl/dlibra) . If you do, then the problem is at your end. If everything works fine there then the problem is likely on ManyRoads. Please let me know if it looks like my files are somehow damaged, so I can try and fix them.
Viel Glueck … bis demnaechst.

The pages work wonderfully and I’ve now gone through all of them to find my forebears and trck their movements through the city.
Thanks for putting these pages all in one place.

Without changing a thing on my end, all of the DJVU docs now open up intact. Thanks again for all of your hard work.
Staring at the listing for Great-Grandfather hits me deep.

I am sorry, Irina. They work fine here. Perhaps you are missing a DJVU plugin. Do you have a new ‘puter? You might check here for pointers: http://djvu.org/resources/ -or- http://www.caminova.net/en/downloads/download.aspx?id=1

I’ve (thus far) determined that my g-grandparents were from the village of Firmelsdorf in the former duchy of Saxe-Coberg (now northern Bavaria). They emigrated to Mendota, Illinois in the mid-1850s. I think that was not part of Prussia at the time. Am I right? Do you have any further info regarding that area?

Hi Mike, I recommend you look on this page: http://www.many-roads.com/link-directory/ Please open the link lists for German History & German Genealogy. You may find useful information and pointers there. As for history of your area I recommend reading this for starters (which you probably already have viewed: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saxe-Coburg_and_Gotha ) I hope these help a bit.

Hallo Mark,
beim Download des Adressbuches Graudenz 1913 ist dieser bei ca 9,5 MB abgebrochen worden trotz bestehender Internetverbindung. Woran kann das liegen?
Mit freundlichen Grüssen

I can’t believe it!!! I just found my grandfather in the Elbing address book. That’s the first document that I’ve ever found on any relative on my fathers side of the family…he had a phone too.
Thank you for all your great work.

I’m new to this – can you tell me how to read the addressbook? I know the name of the person I’m looking for, but I don’t know her parent’s names or their occupations. Thanks!
Mar 14, 2011 @ 05:26:02
Hi Anna… the address books work similarly to our phone books. Last name alphabetic, First name. If you have an incorrect spelling of the last name you’ll need to try German variations of any Americanized spelling(s). For example if your last name is Amtshettler you might try Ampschetler or Amptschetler… Good hunting.
Mar 15, 2011 @ 09:07:51
Thanks! What do the numbers after their names reference?
Mar 15, 2011 @ 09:25:56
Not certain which pages you are looking at but probably the street number.
