Jacques Guyon
source “One Hundred French Canadian Family Histories” by Phillip J. Moore.
Most people of French Canadian heritage descend from this family of old Perche. Jacques Guyon is the earliest Guyon we can claim as an ancestor. He witnessed a document executed in Tourouve, Monday, January 6, 1579, and died before September 29, 1623. He and his wife Marie Huet married before 1583. They had at least two children, Marie born in 1588, and Jean in 1592. Jacques was unable to sign his name.

Sorry, I put that last comment in the wrong place, it should have been here.
Both of my grandparents, Dad’s side, are descend from Jean Guyon and Mathurine Robin.
I am looking for help with this. This is what I have in my family tree.
Jeanne Barnard 1647-1683, parents Andre Bernard and Marie Andree Guyon, Marie is daughter of Jean Guyon and Mathurine Robin.
Jeanne Barnard is married to “Guyon Dion Chiasson”. What is this name? His first and middle name is the same as Jeanne’s maiden name, Dion being another variation of Guyon. Is he a family member of her’s? Is there a interfamily relationship here? Any explanation?
Another curiosity. I read somewhere that the Guyon name has many variations. Dufresnay is one of them. My name is Dufresne and seems like no connection with Guyon’s. The Dufresne’s lived in the Quebec area, later branching to Upstate NY and VT. Could Dufresne be the americanized version of Dufresnay and they may also be related to the Guyon’s somehow, any help?

Hi Flora
You may wish to read the Tanguay text here:
http://many-roads.com/genealogy/documents/Quebec/Genealogy%20Texts/Tanguay%20volume%201.djvu
I think you will be able to draw your own conclusions without much difficulty from his information. Tanguay notes common name variations on page 294. The family of Jean Guyon and Robin Mathurine are on the same page.
