Wilfred Deyo did this search in 1982 sadly he passed away 2 yrs later and was not able to complete his findings.He sent a 6 page copy of what he found to 3 cousins,my Mom being one of them.I now have enough to write 20+ pages…
Wilfred never knew who his real grandmother was…but I do!!!!!
Great job..If I can help with anything else..email me

Hi Mark, I am enjoying all the adventures you find yourself in! LOL! Anyway, just a note on the picture of the red farm you have posted, it is the farm of Lawrence Deyo in Point AuRouch, N Y, that is a few miles from Plattsburg, N.Y.He is the son of Rufus Deyo who originally owned it and possibly his father Jerome owned it before Rufus. I use to go there alot when I was a child. I think that is Lawrence pictured there. He passed on last year. Keep up the good work!

Hi Linda.. Yes, it is all in good fun. Luckily, I seem able to find all manner of genealogical mystery. I do truly appreciate the update on the farm. It certainly looks lovely. …mark

Hello. Just checking to see if in your research you have found ANY POSSIBLE person who could be Eli Deao, born 1824 in New York. Eli’s father was born in Germany, according to one census. Eli may have connections to Canada. Eli’s first son was named Orlando Deao, born in Stark Co. IL. Would love some help with this. Thanks!

I saw above that you wrote: “Eli Deyo and Philomen Lafountain”. In the Kansas census, I found an Orlando Fountain living with a Mary Deao. They also had a Peoria IL connection. I was excited to see these names, since there’s a tenuous similarity with my Eli Deao and his son Orlando Deao [an uncommon name in the mid-west][see my first email today]. Hope you can find a common thread here. Thanks for any help.

Hi Kathleen unfortunately none of my Deyo family comes from Germany they are almost all from French Canada and France (thus far I have found anything to indicate a German link). In 1824 my Deyo forebear was Ignace Guyon… see: http://www.many-roads.com/genealogy-trees/deyo-family-branch/ All the best!

Mark, I was taking another look at your files. Your Eli Deao P504 was born abt 1830, died before 1850. I’m going to stretch here a bit because I am desperate! My Eli Deao was born about that time and lived in IL by 1850. How do you know your Eli Deo died before 1850, and didn’t relocate? [grin] His name is one of the closest I’ve come to matching. Also, as I wrote earlier, you have a LaFountain; I found Orlando Fountain living with Mary Deao. My Eli Deao had a son Orlando; odd name. I just have a hunch that these little straws could add up to a bale. Please take one more look {begging!!}

Hi Kathleen,All I know of the first Eli Deyo,born in abt 1830, is what was written by Wilfred Deyo in 1982.That he must have died in childbirth as he is not listed in any of the census..I do not have much on the LaFountain line other then Philomen’s parents are Joseph and Philomen Philbot LaFountain..I don’t believe our Deyo’s are of the same. Well….it was worth the effort to double check….thanks for your time.

Hi Kathleen absent dates for the actual births of a couple of your Deaos it will be very hard to ‘prove’ any link. Do you have sibling names for Eli? or your first generation Fountains? If we had something to match aside from approximate dates and transliterated names we might be able to commence a more successful search. Sorry.

Hi Kathleen,My Eli Deyo was recorded under the name Hilaire Dion in some of the records I have..Maybe your Eli is under a different first name also? Patty

Based on his age at his death in 1899, Eli Deao was born about 1824 in New York. I have found no siblings or parents for him; I feel certain that his name [first, last or both] was derived from something other. My Eli was married in Stark Co. IL in 1850, and appeared on the census in that place. I have him documented well from 1850-1899. But nothing before 1850. No likely place was found for him on the 1840 census. Which is why I wildly conjectured if my Eli could possibly have been the person you call Eli Deyo P504, born abt 1830, died before 1850. My wild conjecture was that maybe that boy didn’t die, but left the area?!
I do not know if we connect with Fountain/LaFountain. I just observed that there was a Deyo and Orlando indexed together, and noticed the coincidence that you have a Deyo and Fountain. And I have a Deao and an Orlando.

Hi Kathleen… I think it would be best to take this discussion off-line. Give me a phone number and I’ll call; or you can reach me directly via email from our contact page. One quick item though worth noting, our p504 Eli Deyo was born in Quebec (not NY). In 1850 the family was still resident in Quebec (they appear in Quebec in the 1851 Canada Census) and had not yet appeared in New York state (so far as we can tell)… our first record of the family in the US is with the 1860 US Census. …mark
